In Disney/Pixars 'Toy Story 3,' Andy has grown to college age and the story leaves the toys pretty much on their own. it's NOT a CHILDREN'S movie, it's an ADULT movie. The first two 'Toy Story' movies centered on the relationship between a boy and his toys. Until I saw the movie, I was confused as to why the theater (which was not full at all) had many more adults than children. There was just one infant, who, asleep in her mums arms, was. When I went to see Toy Story 3 the audience consisted almost entirely of adults in their 20s and 30s. Shall we also not forget that Buzz was kidnapped? That was frightening. Starring: Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Ned Beatty, Don Rickles, Michael Keaton, John Morris, Jodi Benson, Timothy Dalton. Potato Head going into the box twice, Buzz being turned "bad" when put on demo mode, the toys going out in the trash TWO times, etc. Once compassionate and kind, Lotsos heart darkened when he was abandoned and replaced. Yet, even a character as scary as Lotso has a deeply sad backstory. In a summer that will be littered with bad sequels, bad 3-D and bad storytelling, it is a movie to be heartily embraced. Separation between characters may also be emotionally troubling for young children." - While this was the least frightening, my son seemed tense when he knew that all the toys were in peril (at the day care and at the landfill), but they were being separated from each other. Lots-O-Huggin Bear, one Toy Story ’s biggest villains, ruled Sunnyside Daycare mercilessly, inflicting misery upon the other toys. Toy Story 3 inspires an uncomplicated adoration: the kind we reserve for our best-loved if ill-worn and even occasionally misplace. They thought Woody & crew were about to be MURDERED! My son had a very difficult time understanding why the purple bear wanted to KILL the others! After his appearance, I had to hold him through the rest of the movie and shield his eyes when the monkey was in following scenes.Īt a landfill, characters are about to be shredded and then burned, creating a very intense scene - My children see these toys as living people. For now though, we’re looking at the scary side of Toy Story 3, as evidenced in the film’s various homages and influences in horror cinema. For starters, there’s the influence of director Lee. After escaping the shredders, Rex sees a light, thinking its daylight. Some characters are frightening looking, including an evil cymbal-clapping monkey - This monkey made my son cringe, cry, and actually scream once. The incinerator is a location at the Tri-County Landfill and part of the climax of Toy Story 3. Was the intended effect for TS3 to be a childrens horrer movie? Hindsight being 20/20, I'd prefer crude to terrifying any day.ĭark scenes with scary music - The music set an overly frightening tone. We actually chose to see Toy Story 3 instead of Despicable Me because of the crude humor in DM. Had I read the reviews, I would have thought it was just the typical Toy Story shenanigans. My son (5.5 yrs) became very upset seeing TS3.
